Some writers might have made her grateful just to have witnessed it or whatever, but Lee imagines what it would be like to be denied that, and I like the way Tanaquil deals with it. Tanaquil discovers a world of opposites where everything which is good on her world is evil.

This is the kind of fantasy story I like, which breaks through the typical tropes of knights and dragons and hobgoblins to create something a little more tainth. This took a lot longer for me to read than its pages would imply.

There is something amazing that happens, but to avoid spoiling the book, I don’t want to say it. I think Tanith is capable of captivating stories and beautiful writing, but this book just isn’t an example of that.

I enjoyed Black Unicorn, but each unicorn book since then has been slightly less enjoyable. Nobody knew where it had come from, or what it wanted. Please jnicorn again later. Every once in a while, tanirh character will actually get to speak their mind, but it’s very rare. A satisfying young adult story in the classic fantasy vein. The only revealing quality was the peeve. In this last book, Tanaquil ends up on a journey through a world in her own mind, which sounds super cheesy, but I feel like it worked, and I like the way it ends.

And I’m being very specific here. I’m trying to work my way through Lee’s stuff, but it’s hard to find, and I think it’s a shame that such a talented, prolific writer seems not to be widely known these days.
